blogheaderearshot

We know. And we’re sorry. The month of March came and went with no podcast. But have no fear – have a two-for-one deal instead! That’s right – twice as much music – same incredibly awesome podcast! You may have heard some of these, but we bet you haven’t heard them all. Keep your ears open in between jams for a special shout out to the winner of Eyesview’s facebook contest, our web-tech and fellow audiofile – Chris Kruse of TextCS!

2 Cent Cinema

As the filmmaker prodigy that we all strive to be in our early days – we set out on a journey attempting to translate thoughts, visions and our imaginations into a fly by night success story. To make that one short film that will bring us recognition and fame! This is when life pinches you and you wake up. You are an over ambitious wanna be with lots of time on your hands and a Sony 8mm Handi-cam. Your currently fucked. You need to realize the early stages of becoming a filmmaker will not be a break out time (unless your Steven Spielberg-  and your not) but a learning time. That’s right, I said learning – you have to learn and take away from these times – whether it is – “Man I over exposed that shot” or “Holy shit that pan I did rocked” or “Wow, my story makes no fucking sense” - the trail and error period is now. Use your early films as a way to learn how to express and translate your ideas into the medium that is filmmaking. Shoot your stuff – Edit Your stuff – Act in your Stuff. Who cares if you suck ass at acting – currently 80% of Hollywood sucks ass at acting. Do what ever it takes to get your hands and mind involved in the PROCESS of filmmaking.

Finally getting to the point of my long winded sentiment – 2 Cent Cinema is a blog about where we at Eyesview came from. These TERRIBLE SHORT FILMS are our earliest expression in filmmaking. The Wonder Years – where lighting, sound and camera were really second tier to the fun that was had and the experience that was gained. We want to show everyone that you should always TAKE YOUR IMAGINATION SERIOUSLY! That is our fucking Mantra here and we are proud of it. Up coming filmmakers and videographers – Learn to wrap your mind around film production early on. Get a cheap ass camera and get out there with your friends – FILM SHIT. Anything. Once you experience the process from shooting to editing to sitting down and watching your finished products, you’ll never want to stop rolling tape. So sit back, relax and waste valuable minutes of your life watching our features here at 2 CENT CINEMA. Also if you’d like to share your first films – please feel free to post links in the comments!

Our first Feature is an oldie – circa 1999-ish: BRAINFART
Here is our first comedic take on Art Films. Starring Eyesview’s own Clay Robertson and shot with my very first camera. (SEEN ABOVE)

That’s right – this bag will break down safely in an active composting environment because it’s made from plants. We were one of four winners chosen to air on NATIONAL TV! This goes to show what can be accomplished with teamwork on a Saturday afternoon. Take your imagination seriously – you might make it to TV!

VLOG 11 – LIFE IS BUT A VLOG

Get Adobe Flash player

What is the best part about behind the scenes footage? Is it the spontaneous fun that’s captured off camera while work is being accomplished? Is it because it acts as a permanent reminder of a shared experience? Or is seeing what happens on set simply a substitute for being there? Recently, Eyesview was fortunate enough to work with James Caruso on producing his short film, “Life Is But A Dream”. Although, this isn’t James’ first foray into film, (he was Art Director on our award winning short “Helpless”) this is his first time writing, directing and editing – way to be a go-getter James! Clay and Tom from Eyesview were on board to help light the set and act as camera.   We had a great time helping a friend get his creative on, and we think shows in Vlog 11 – Life Is But A Vlog.

Exit Through the Gift Shop

blogheaderart

Every once in a while a documentary comes out with an inherent topic you like, but seldom does a documentary get released that is a about a topic you truly LOVE. Exit Through the Gift Shop, the world’s first Street Art disaster movie, is this documentary. It was put together by the acclaimed and incognito street artist known as Banksy. Thought to be from Bristol, England, Banksy is a pioneering street artist that uses the world as his canvas. Installing his own sculptures in public places, taking over abandoned warehouses and holding art shows with painted livestock, breaking into some of the most famous museums in the world and installing his own pieces- nothing is out of reach for this insanely talented artist.

So as if this one guy wasn’t enough, the film he made includes includes many other founding artists of the Street movement such as greats Shepard Fairey, designer of the Obama ‘Hope’ poster, and Space Invader, one of the most well known street artists in the world.

The following summary can be found on Wikipedia. “The story of how an eccentric French shop keeper and amateur film maker attempted to locate and befriend Banksy, only to have the artist turn the camera back on its owner with spectacular results.”

I look forward to seeing this movie. Since it’s debut in Sundance, reviews have been great. Check out the schedule on the film’s official page to see when Exit Through the Gift Shop will start playing in a city near you! http://www.banksyfilm.com/.
